Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice
Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice
$2.29/ bag
That said, I have to say that the frozen Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Amazing enough that it has now become one of my go-to meals, especially on busy weeknights. There are four of us in my household (two adults and two 10-year-olds), so one-and-a-half bags of fried rice is the perfect amount. When I shop, I usually buy three bags at a time. At $2.29 a bag, how can you go wrong?!
The flavor of the fried rice is rich and full, not too salty, not bland at all. However, if you like a little pop of
flavor, you could add a drizzle of soy sauce or even cook in a cube of the Trader Joe’s Crushed Ginger, which by the way, is SO much easier than peeling and chopping ginger root! When I make the Chicken Fried Rice with shrimp, the entire meal (prep included) takes about half an hour. That’s not too shabby for a super-tasty weeknight dish!
Going back to price, I am going to break down the cost, per person, based on my favorite way to prepare this meal. Please note, all prices except the fried rice and shrimp are estimates.
Add-In Options:
Chicken
Shrimp
Pork
Riced Cauliflower
Broccoli
Carrots
Peas
Diced red pepper
Garnish Options:
Sliced scallions
Bean sprouts
Chopped peanuts
Helpful Tips:
If rice sticks to pan, use sharp spatula to scrape from bottom. But don’t panic because it’s tasty when it gets that crispy crust! Adding a smidge of chicken broth will also help loosen rice from bottom.
Cook add-in protein first. Remove cooked protein from pan. Cook rice. Add protein back in at the end.
Estimate about ⅓ of a package per adult. If you have 4 people in your family, a bag-and-a-half should be just right!
That sounds amazing and very creative! Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the chicken fried rice. We normally add the Argentina Red Shrimp in it for more protein. It is also good as a side with the Tempura Shrimp.
ReplyDeleteThat’s such a good idea! I’ve used it as a side with the mandarin orange chicken but haven’t had it with the tempura shrimp! I’ll try that next!
DeleteLove adding egg and coconut aminos to mine!
DeleteI love to add eggs and coconut aminos to mine!
DeleteLove this rice with some Grilled Chicken. Simple but delicious!
ReplyDeleteThis is a staple in our home! The rice is so flavorful that all we do is add a couple different ingredients to it depending on what we have on hand and/or what we're in the mood for. We also serve it on its own if we're making TJ's Orange Chicken and/or Kung Pao Chicken.
ReplyDeleteAdd TJ's Chicken Gyoza (red label) - Heat a thin layer of oil on medium heat and place frozen gyozas in a frying pan, cover. Lightly brown on one side then flip and lightly brown on other side. Once browned, add about a half cup of water (it will splatter), turn the heat on high and cover, allowing the gyoza to steam (just 2-3 minutes). This gives it a crunchy, yet steamed texture. Toss this into the already prepared chicken fried rice.
Add Shrimp - Saute chopped garlic and add shrimp. Cook just until opaque then add soy sauce (or coconut aminos) and toss until coated and shrimp is cooked through (but not overcooked). Toss this into the already prepared chicken fried rice.
Other ingredients we like to add: sugar snap peas, broccoli, cooked egg - really the possibilities are endless!!!
I just bought it yesterday after hearing all the great reviews. Will make it tonight with the pad thai for the first time too
ReplyDeleteGreat tip on mixing it with cauliflower rice. I find you can go half and half without anyone noticing it. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI often use fried rice to stretch ground chicken for lettuce wraps or for taco filling.
I add peanuts, tofu, scallions and chili oil to punch up the flavor. Sometimes also serve with the TJs scallion pancakes
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I enjoy wrapping anything and everything we can up in a tortilla! We use TJs fried rice and TJs orange chicken together for a wonderful wrapped dinner!
